The Aaron Thurston Trio Featured at UNESCO / US Dept. of State Celebration
Caroussel de Louvre Museum - Paris, France
October, 2003
In a program envisioned by U.S. Assistant Secretary of State for Educational and Cultural Affairs Pat Harrison, The Aaron Thurston Trio featuring Hammond Organist Adam Scone, Trumpeter Kevin Louis, and Drummer Aaron Thurston was a featured performer on a bill that included mezzo-soprano Denyce Graves, Oscar-winning director Chuck Workman, and Master of Ceremonies actor/director Rick Schroder. The event, entitled “A Celebration of American Entertainment”, was put on at the Caroussel de Louvre, Paris, to celebrate the United States’ re-entry into the Educational and Cultural Branch of the United Nations - UNESCO. The trio performed their signature blend of jazz, funk, boogaloo, and second-line New Orleans grooves to the enthusiastic and captivated crowd of 1,100 UNESCO dignitaries.
The cocktail hour featured country music’s rising star and Sony recording artist Miranda Lambert, and the post-concert reception was duly injected with the perfect party formula by the Boney Fields Project.
Many of the attendees expressed regret that they had not gotten up and danced during the trio’s set. (It was after all still a State function!) Thankfully, Secretary Harrison proved that great leaders lead by example when she jumped up and proceeded to cut up the rug during the reception with trumpeter Kevin Louis.
